SUSU Sit In - 15th of May
Tom (Societies Officer) says ...
The biggest event in SUSU for years, our chance to get out there and show the University that they have to listen to their student body. What are people thinking? How should we prepare, How can we ensure maximum coverage and maximum embarrassment for the University. How can we get everyone involved? The Constable of the Forums

Sarah Moore - Union President says ...
The point is that it can be changed! University senate and council can make the decision. It is both the principle and practice that we are objecting to. Yes fine, we are allowed to sit on the selection committee but we are the only ones there without a vote! Explainations given by the university such as- we want to keep down numbers/ the susu president is not qualified enough to represent the students/ the president is only voted in by 5000 students so is not best representing students/ it won't come down to a vote/ it is an unusual time scale etc are just nonsenseical! If someone is a valued member of a committee they should be given a democratic vote like everyone else there. Furthermore, it sets a presidence. If SUSU only sits on University committees to 'show face' then it's representative role is being compromised and undermined. I accept that Senate and council might not change their minds, and i am of course glad that we have been given some form of representation on the panel, even if non-voting. However, the day you stop fighting for your principles is a very sad day indeed. The students of this university care about thier education and thier institution and are still alive and kicking! Out of all the students that have been involved in this process through any form, there has only been opposition from an extremely small minority- you of course being one Pedgerow. I have been careful not indended to push students in any direction on this- i have provided the information from both sides and asked the students to make up thier own minds about this... and this is what they want.

We've been putting up posters, setting up facebook groups, sending out emails, inviting people to meetings etc for months. I have personally emailed every society and more than 50 have already emailed their membership. We are never going to get everyone involved - there are 23,000 students at this university and not all of them will be up for taking part or indeed be interested, but many will. We already have a number of banners, leaflets are being printed as we speak and t-shirts, badges etc are all planned. We are still planning it all at the moment, and it will not be completely ready until next Thursday morning - that is why we're all working hard to get people inviolved and get active. That is why we have this thread - to make people aware of what is going on and open up the discussion of what we can do. The Constable of the Forums
